Sunday 25 October 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the canonisation of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales. In this illustrated feature length article, David Gorman describes the background to these brave men and women, the efforts to further the cause of the Forty Martyrs prior to 1970, the canonisation itself in Rome, the strong links between many of the Forty Martyrs and Lancashire and the  ways in which the Forty Martyrs have been, and continue to be, commemorated in Lancashire.
